v0.2.1 coach is out: in the desktop app and the terminal

A mod for Claude Code

Get better at Claude Code,
one habit a week.

coach reads the sessions you've already had, picks the one habit that would help you most, and tracks how you're doing. Plus tips at your level, and CLAUDE.md lines and skills worth making.

  • Local first, sends nothing
  • First report in seconds
  • Terminal and desktop app
The coach report in the Claude desktop app. A coral card: your week with Claude, 28 Sep to 4 Oct, week 4; 10 sessions, 18 prompts, $6.14 spent, up 40% on the four weeks before, and $0.25 for a typical prompt, down 15%; beside them, spend by day. Below, the habit of the week, start fresh when you switch topics, with a ring at 33% against a goal of 70% and two of three switches done this week; then eight weeks of progress as small charts.
Figures are illustrative.

Why you'll want it

Most advice about Claude Code is generic. coach's comes from your own sessions, so every tip shows you where it came from.

One habit at a time

Each week coach picks the habit that would help you most, shows the session it came from and what it cost, and tells you what to try. It sticks with a habit for two weeks and retires it once you've got it.

Teach Claude your project

How to run the tests, the package manager it gets wrong, the corrections you keep making: CLAUDE.md lines ready to copy, with the evidence. Suggestions only; coach never writes your CLAUDE.md.

Skills from prompts you repeat

A prompt you keep typing in nearly the same words becomes a suggested skill, with a template and the follow-up you usually add. "Make it a skill" puts the request in the prompt box for you.

Progress over the weeks

Cost per prompt, corrections, oversized sessions and your habit, week by week. Finished weeks are kept, so the history survives Claude Code deleting old logs.

Tips at your level

Beginners see the basics; experienced users see advanced tips. Every tip is backed by your own sessions and retires once you've taken it up.

Your sessions stay yours

It reads the logs Claude Code already keeps and makes no network calls. Grading prompts with a model is opt-in, about a cent a week with Haiku.

A report, a line, and a few commands

Open the report whenever you like. The rest of the week, a line above the prompt keeps your habit in view.

The coach line above the prompt in four states: a report ready to read; the habit of the week with this week's progress, 2 of 3; a live hint about a topic change in a big session; and the short form it falls back to when the terminal is narrow.
/coach
Opens the report on your last full week: the headline numbers, the habit, your best prompt, and your progress.
/coach tips
Every tip worth showing now, each with the sessions behind it.
/coach claude-md
Every CLAUDE.md suggestion, per project, ready to copy.
/coach skills
Every prompt you type often enough to be worth a skill.
/coach bar · /coach hints
Hide or show the line above the prompt, and turn live hints on or off.
"why did my cost jump?"
Ask Claude about your week in plain words. coach gives it a tool that reads the report.

Install in under a minute

  1. In a Claude Code terminal session, type this at the prompt:

    /plugin install coach --marketplace aseem-upadhyay/qol-mods
  2. Answer y to add the marketplace, then pick the user scope so coach loads in every session.

  3. That's it. Your first report is ready a few seconds after your next session starts, because coach reads the logs you already have. Type /coach to open it.
